Local Menu at the Space

Hello world ! :)

As for my fifth post, I would like to share about something that is important for us as the human. Guess what ? Yes ! It's all about food. Besides food is not only important for us to continue our life but also important in order to symbolize the culture of a country.

Do you know that our astronaut had celebrated Eid Mubarak at the ISS and also he was the first Muslim being there during the day? This was not only had made our astronaut felt sad being there alone but also encouraged the Director of Research Center of Food Technology, MARDI, Dr. Abu Hassan Bakar Hussin find the way to make sure the astronaut also can enjoy the same food as us on the earth during that day.

According to him too, suitable food could made the astronaut felt comfortable during all the time at the ISS besides create the sense of patriotism that would resulted positive emotional impact. The Space Agency of Itali also had confirmed the problems regarding foods and the diversity of quality foods will give positive effects psychologically.

Thus, our astronaut was provided with the local foods like chicken satay, beef rendang, pressed chicken briyani rice, banana fruit roll, dehydrated mango slice, confectionery ginger jelly, roselle granola bar, oven baked malaysian cookie (kuih bangkit) and also fried tempeh chips.

Local Research Mission at the Space

Hello readers :)

This time, as my forth post, I would like to share about the researches that had been done by our astronaut which was a part of the mission. I know that everybody is keep asking, what had our astronaut done up there ? Was he just having fun playing with the things that were floating everywhere because of the anti-gravity?

This entry may answer everything that you have in your mind before. So, keep reading guys. :)

In order to ensure this program successful or not, our astronaut had done some research at the space or to be more specify, International Space Station (ISS). So now, change your understanding. He was not having fun there but he had done something that were very important for our life even we, a normal Malaysian feels like there's "nothing".

There were three components of the experiment which involved cells, microbe and also the crystallization of protein at the space. It was important to make experiments at different environment because it offers unique atmosphere with the presence of micro-gravity space radiation and it could give new discovery in the science world.

There had been challenges for the astronaut to do any experiment because all the activity and the weight of the items used at the ISS had been limited. The maximum weight that was allowed were only 15 kilogramme and for the items that would be bring back to the earth were only 5 kilogramme.

Malaysian 1st Astronaut "Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor"

Hye visitors :)

Sorry for being quite rush updating this blog. I hope you don't mind and keep reading my writing :)

As for the third entry, I would like to write about our first man in space which is Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. Out of more than 11 thousands of Malaysians applied to be an astronaut, Sheikh Muszaphar had been chosen based on his ability in terms of  physical and mental besides his knowledge about science.

Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar was born on July 27, 1972 and he was schooled at St Paul's in Seremban for primary school and continued his secondary school at MRSM Muar, Johore.

After that, he did his A-Levels and Bachelor's Degree (MBBS) in Medicine and Surgery at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. He was graduated from the college in 1997.

Not only an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar is also a Fellow Researcher at Institute of Space Science National University of Malaysia UKM.

" What the mind believes, the body can achieve"
His motto had brought him to be who is him today.  He was not only make he proud to be himself but also his family and also we, the Malaysians.
"I am just like you.....nothing extraordinary but mental strength plays a key role in achieving success. If I can do this, you can too. There's nothing impossible in life. Dreams are possible."

His achievements makes others especially the youth to wake up from their long sleep and open up their mind to make all their dreams into reality. The first step that we can take is, set our mind to be more positive and then starts our journey to success.

That's a little bit information about our first astronaut. Hopefully we can make him as our role model in the way to achieve our dreams. Thank you for spending your time to read my entry. :)

The Chronology of Astronaut Selection

Hello guys ! :)

As for my second post, i would like to share more about the process of selecting an astronaut. I hope all the question marks in your mind will disappear after reading this. :D

Do you know that it was not easy to choose an astronaut?

There are two important criteria that people should have once they want to apply for the selection. First is the age. Second is the education or expertise. Only people who are in the age of 21st and above can attend the session. Besides, they are also need to have degree in professional pilot.

To be an astronaut, people need to have deep knowledge about the aircraft and they must be the one who are professional. This is because, there will be too many obstacles that we can't predict to be happened either when we are at the space or on the way go to the space and back to the earth.

The Malaysians who have a dream to be an astronaut were welcomed to apply for joining the selection process through online.

So, do you know that there were about 11,275 Malaysians applied for the selection ? Unfortunately, only 894 people were fit to do running test.

There were about 6 selection process that had been done in the way to choose our first astronaut. Let's go through all the six process. :)

1st selection process

About 435 people involved in this first process which was running at a distance of 3.5 km only for 20 minutes. This programme had been held on August 28 and September 3, 2005 at several different location which were in Kuantan, TUDM Subang, Kuching, Lok Kawi, Johore, Butterworth and Penang.

2nd selection process

Only 199 people who were passed for the first test will go to the next selection process. This step of process involved medical basic screening test like the abnormalities, physical checkup, temperature and organs besides urine test.

3rd selection process

Third process was about the aero medical and only 59 participants were feasible at this stage. There were several tests that they should have which were:
  • urine and drugs tests
  • blood test
  • blood test for biochemical serum
  • blood test for HIV, Hepatitis B and VDRL
  • physical measurement; heights by experts from Institute of Aviation Medicine (TUDM)
  • body mass index (BMI)
  • ear , nose and throat check-up at ATM Hospital
  • sight check-up
  • chest x-ray
  • blood pressure
  • heart beats (ECG)
  • echocardiography (ECHO)
  • teeth check-up

4th selection process

As for the forth selection process which were aero medical 2 involved only 27 candidates. They have gone through stool inspection to see whether there's blood or not which included:

  • Blood cells test
  • Abdominal Ultrasound
  • Lung function test
  • Cardiac stress test
  • Testing/ Evaluation of bone
  • Altitude chamber

There have been also a test to evaluate the performance of the candidates at 25000 feet (level of oxygen). Only about 18 candidates passed this test.

5th selection process

For the fifth selection process, only 18 Malaysians were able to go through this selection. As for this process, all the candidates were undergone the psychiatric tests.

Sending Malaysian to Space

Hye3 everybody !

This is my first post and i hope you will enjoy and gain some knowledge from my sharing. :)

First of all, do you still remember what happened in 2007? If no, let's continue reading ! :D

Maybe this will help you in the way to catch back all the memories in the year.

Malaysian Space Mission had been past almost for more than 6 years ago, we as the Malaysians should know and remember about this as it is one of our best achievements after several other breaking events like the Mount Everest Mission, Around the World Solo Mission of Datuk Azhar Mansor and also the latest one which is 1 Malaysia Round The World.

So, can you guess what i am going to write about? oh yes !
This is all about the mission for sending our Malaysian to the space ! Let's bring your mind into this new history created by our Malaysian.

Malaysia’s forth Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad had announced the National Space Program on 7th August 2003 during his visit to Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. During his speech, Tun Dr. Mahathir announced that Malaysia will send two or three Malaysians to be astronauts to undergo training in Russia in order to join the space exploration research mission with astronaut in 2005. The programme for sending a Malaysian to space was conceived in 2003 when Russia agreed to send a Malaysian to the ISS as part of Malaysia's RM3.4 billion purchases of 18 Russian-made Sukhoi jet fighters.

Our chosen Malaysians will be there for two years having training as the preparation to be an astronaut. There had been several modules that all the astronaut-to-be should pass in order to make sure that they are fully prepared for the mission besides to learn something from the other experienced astronauts from Russia.

On 26 March 2004, Datuk Dr. Mazlan Othman the director of National Space Agency (Angkasa) had announced that the mission for sending our first astronaut was postponed until 2007. The reason why they need to postpone the mission was because NASA were doing an investigation into the space shuttle of Columbia that had been exploded and seven crews were killed in the accident.

Take a deep breath :D It was just postponed, not cancelled. So if you want to know more, let's continue reading  in my next post . Thank you for spending your time to read this entry :)
